PostHeaderIcon Olympic Moment : Speed Skating 1,000 Meters 2002 Olympics

One of my most favorite moments in recent Winter Olympics history is during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Australia's Steven Bradbury became the first person from the Southern Hempishpere to win a Gold Medal in the Winter Olympics during the 1,000 meters Speed Skating event which just happend to feature Apolo Ohno.

Check out the video below to see what happens.

Sadly, only someone like Apolo would see this as a good thing for the Australian skater. Even I felt guilty for thinking Apolo was robbed of the gold medal after seeing how he handled the entire event. What an awesome attitude to show the world and upcoming skaters! And even some of us older folks as well. I have the deepest respect and admiration for this young man! What a role model for young and old!
Apolo, my wife and I will always cheer you on, leaping from our chairs and hollering your name as you race! And we will TRY and do as you do and give kudos to whoever passes the line. We have watched from afar as you grew into a fine young man and we think the world of you. Every time your name is mentioned on TV, all activity in the house stops to watch and listen. We are so VERY proud of you!
