Question from a curling newbie! I was watching the Olympic men and the French cleared the house on the final stone. Why? It would've been easy (for them) to hit out the US stone and have their stone stay, earning a point, right? Why wouldn't they do that?

I saw something similar earlier in the week and I need to look it up myself.

The French were probably trying to maintain the hammer from your description. If no one scores, than the hammer is passed to the next end so instead of getting one easy point, they were trying to set up to get 2+ in the next end.
